Terms and Conditions of ILS accounts

Your Internet Lake Simcoe account is a powerful interactive information tool. These rules and regulations are designed for mutual protection and understanding of Internet services.

Internet Lake Simcoe Ltd. reserves the right to terminate any account if the account is being used in violation of these policies, and we reserve the right to prohibit activities that, in our judgment, have the potential to damage other customers or our service.

1. Account Responsibility: Internet Lake Simcoe Family Package and Personal Business Package dial-up accounts are meant for the personal use of the owner (user) of the account and under his/hers supervision for members of his/hers immediate household. The account owner is responsible for all charges and potential legal consequences incurred by the account. The account owner should notify Internet Lake Simcoe immediately if they suspect unauthorized use of their account.

2. Dial-up accounts: The standard package of Internet Lake Simcoe is unlimited hours of connect time per month. For your protection, our servers are programmed to disconnect a connection that has been idle for 20 minutes or more.
Accounts with unlimited connection time are dial-up accounts, not dedicated full-time connections. Use of programs that emulate network action is forbidden and will result in immediate disconnecting and suspending the account.
All users of the network are requested to divide their prime-time (7.30pm - 11.30pm) usage to two hour sessions with at least ten minute breaks in between. To evenly distribute the network resources, the network administrators will interrupt lengthy sessions if necessary.
All dial-up accounts are single user accounts. An attempt to dial in with the same username and password twice or more will be considered unauthoirized use and for the protection for your account, the administrators will without warning suspend the account.

3. Equipment: Services of Internet Lake Simcoe can be accessed with a personal computer running different up-to-date operating systems. Consult our personnel for the compatibility of your equipment before opening your account. Services can be accessed only through a fully functional phone line, properly installed modem and non-conflicting software and hardware.

4. Support:The activation fee of 17.75 dollars includes a free consultation of Internet connection configuration.
Connection software obtained from other sources than Internet Lake Simcoe is not supported. Internet Lake Simcoe is not obligated to provide assistance for general software or hardware problems.

5. Software: Internet Lake Simcoe makes certain software available to customers. This software can be Internet freeware or propriety software especially written for Internet Lake Simcoe. Modifying, copying, reproducing. licensing or sublicensing these programs is forbidden. Observe license agreements separately on each program.

6. Explicit Materials:Internet Lake Simcoe does not filter or censor contents on the Internet, and is not responsible of contents, other than its own publications.
Internet Lake Simcoe Ltd. will not allow pornographic, violent or offensive material published on its servers, and reserves the right to delete any such material without warning.
Please note that several Internet applications enable parents to block unwanted material.

7. Commercial Activity: Resale of Inter Lake Simcoe resources, dial-up, bandwidth, server space, or any other service, is forbidden.
ILS does not permit "junk" mailings or bulk mailings. Using mailing lists to send binary attachments is forbidden. ILS does not permit the posting of commercial messages to Usenet news groups where the messages are irrelevant to the subject matter or where these messages are posted in bulk to many news groups.

8. Chain Letters: You may not use your Internet Lake Simcoe account to send, copy, or forward chain letters.

9. Security: Any attempt to intrude servers, personal computers or any devices on the Internet is forbidden and will result in criminal charges. This includes e.g. scanning TCP/IP ports, spreading viruses or trojans, attempts to solve passwords, etc. The network administrators use automated software to monitor network traffic for illegal activity.

10. Mail: The Internet Lake Simcoe mail server is programmed to send and deliver POP3 and SMTP electronic mail. Moderate size (less than 3 megabytes) file attachments are allowed but not recommended.
The mail box size is limited to 5 megabytes. Network users are requested to check their mail at least once in two weeks.
You may not use your Internet Lake Simcoe account to pretend you are someone else when you are sending mail.

11. Mail privacy: Communication on the Internet may not be completely private or reliable. The risk of someone intercepting and reading your mail is considered to be low, about the same risk as someone intercepting and listening to phone calls made with cellular or portable phones. Internet Lake Simcoe Ltd. will not read your mail under any circumstances, however, once your mail is out on the network we can not warrant the privacy of any communication. In rare occurrences, and only when necessary, if your account is experiencing a mail problem, a potential computer virus etc., the administrators are allowed to remove mail messages.

12. Copyright: Material available on the different services of the Internet may or may not be covered by copyright.

13. Material: Internet Lake Simcoe Ltd. does not attempt to control (and in fact cannot control) material that is available on the Internet. Material on the network is provided to you as is. By requesting an Internet Lake Simcoe account, you waive all liability on the part of Internet Lake Simcoe Ltd. regarding the correctness or fitness of any material in text, graphic or binary form.

14. Service Outages: Internet Lake Simcoe Ltd. attempts to ensure that the service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. However, Internet Lake Simcoe Ltd. does not warrant uninterrupted working of the service. Internet Lake Simcoe Ltd. reserves the right to bring down the system occasionally for maintenance purposes. In addition, events beyond our control (such as, but not limited to, interruptions or limitations of telephone or hydro services, interruptions of communications with remote servers) may cause the service to be unavailable for periods of time. Internet Lake Simcoe Ltd. assumes no liability whatsoever for interruption of services in such cases. Internet downtime is not refundable.

15. Account Renewals: Your Internet Lake Simcoe account will automatically be renewed and billed unless you explicitly ask that it be terminated. You can do this by phone, e-mail, fax, or letter. You may cancel your account at any time. If you do not cancel your account, we will continue to bill your account according to your monthly or yearly rate on the dates when it comes due. Upon cancellation, prepaid full months will be refunded. Restarting a cancelled account involves the $17.75 activation fee.

16. Fees: All fees are due in advance of the service period. If we do not receive payment within 7 days of the commencement of your service period, we reserve the right to disable your account. If we have not received payment within 30 days of the commencement of your service period, we reserve the right to delete your account. At this point you will also lose any mail, or other files which are stored on Internet Lake Simcoe equipment..
