Outdoor Early Summer Update:                         16 June 2008 1 pm
The trees are leafing, the blossoms are in their height. There are many birds about, and the young fox kits are playing in the woods.
Walking Trails & Frisbee Golf - Great Fun.
Tennis/Beach Volleyball - The courts are open. Long days make after-dinner games wonderful.
The Briars Golf Course - The Briars Golf Club members are excited about the bunkers being renewed, renovated or re-located! Other local courses.
Cycling - Many local roads have been repaved, particularly along the lakeshore. Provincial Park roadways and paths (3 km away) are open. Nearby are great back roads and a regional forest with mountain bike trails, all within a 10 minute drive.
Boating - The waterfront is open for canoes, kayaks and pedal boats. The Lady Simcoe was re-fit over the winter and has started its summer tours of Briars Bay.

Outdoors, guests are surrounded by the beauty of nature—blue Lake Simcoe, woodsy riverbanks, towering trees. These are an integral part of life at The Briars. Marked pathways guide nature-lovers through verdant gardens, along country laneways, through a private 50-acre nature reserve and along the 1,000-foot lakefront. Golfers, of course, have loved The Briars course for decades; we can assure you that the course has never been more beautiful or in better condition. The Briars lakefront is fully equipped with Sunfish sailboats, canoes, kayaks and pedal boats. The twelve-passenger Lady Simcoe, our own tour launch, carries guests on Lake Simcoe cruises.

Indoors, guests find an agreeable mix of fitness and games facilities. Quieter times are enjoyed in the inn's secluded nooks (many with fireplaces). In particular, "The Top" is a splendid reading retreat and boasts an eagle's eye view of the entire estate. Popular Drinkwaters' Lounge has live musical entertainment most evenings during the summer and on weekends during the winter. The Briars Saturday evening dinner-dances are one of Ontario's most enduring cottage country traditions.

This area is splendid countryside for daytripping. Whether exploring Sibbald Point Provincial Park, finding that perfect antique in a local village, or taking in a small town fair, there is something for every taste in our list of local attractions.

"The Briars estate is large enough that we can offer four seasons of outdoors sports and indoor games for all ages, but we also provide time and space for rest and relaxation."
