Hello all. Yes, I’m still in the land of the living (…much to Revenue Canada’s benefit.).

The simple explanation is that I’ve been working on a novel for the past 4˝ years, so it has left me with little time to do anything else. However the good news is that the finished manuscript goes to the publisher on Aug. 1st ’07, and after that I can turn my mind to other things—like my long-neglected family members.

For those of you who might be interested, it’s called “The Irish Lads”, and should be on the shelves at Chapters-Indigo bookstores by October or November.

It’s the “…adventure-packed tale of two youthful cousins, Sean and Patrick McConaghy, who both set sail from Derry Ireland on March 17th, 1820, and after an eventful crossing of the Atlantic, they brave the St. Lawrence River to eventually settle in the wilderness of Upper Canada,” or so my publicist says; so who am I to disagree?

Thanks for keeping in touch, and warm regards to all.

Gerry Burnie

Hi Jerry

Sailing the good ship INDABA around the world and still in the Caribbean. We went to Venezulea last year and loved it - so will travel down there again this year. There are pirates but not as many as some would have you believe. Cats on board are still thriving and even survived the Huge Iguana ''stand off'' in Puerto La Cruz last year. Must send you some photos of all the adventures on the blue sea.

Kind Regards

Hello,
My name is Edward Anthony Charpentier, Son of Douglas Charpentier, the son of Lawrence Charpentier, the son of Anthony Edward Charpentier and Roseanne Burnie!
That's makes me a wee bit Burnie!

It's kind of weird going to the St. Anthony's church yard and seeing a grave marker with your own name on it.

Hello Gerry:
I am the webmaster of the abovementioned website. I am searching for Rosemary Burnie who was a student at Chateauroux American High School in Chateauroux, France in the mid-1960's. Would have possibly graduated from Auburn University in Alabama in about 1969. Her best friend has been searching for her for years. I found a reference to Rosemary Burnie married to Gary McNutt on your very interesting Family Album website, but I couldn't understand what age that person might be. In 2006, Rosemary would be about 56, 57, or 58 years old. Thank you for your help.

Hello Gerry,
Can you help me with any additional information on W.M. Burnie, a Ship's Surgeon who served on The John Barry in 1825 and 1827 sailing between Ireland and Canada. I know nothing about him other than this.
Thanks for your time, a very interesting site.

John

I am researching the BcBurnie/McBurney family. They are from Ayrshire Scotland and around end 1700s came from somewhere in northern Ireland.No luck in pushing further back so obviously there is a name change or loss of records! In some of our records it showns our names as perhaps being Birnie at one point.Any info welcome.

Hi Gerry
Grat website. You have me listed in Hampshire, England. I am Joseph Burnie. My father James died in 1972, his father was also James who was Libral MP for Bootle, near Liverpool in the 1930s. His father was Joseph and he is listed in the 1901 UK population census as living in Pembroke Road in Bootle. He was a building contractor who built many houses in Bootle. Our forebears came from Powfoot in Dumfrieshire.

I was searching for my late father's name (Jeffrey Burnie) looking for his service number in the military and accidentally stumbled across his name from when he and my family lived in Shilo, Manitoba. (Assuming it's him...) I wandered around the site a bit. I had no idea we had a legacy.

I just thought you might find it interesting as to how I came to view this site. I have a railway pocket watch that is marked on the face: "Regina James Burnie Victoria Harbour" and inside "Burnie's Precision". I don't know if he is one of your clan or not but I was tracing the history of the watch when I found this site.

Hi again Gerry;
As this is a new site and new viewers I will list the following;
Looking for any Burnies or Johnstons who trace back to Sheho Saskatchewan area in late 1890 or early 1900, or anyone with information about them. Mainly,my grandfather Stephen Burnie; an uncle Alec, aka. Alex and maybe Alexander Burnie; my father Michael Harold Burnie, and my grandmother Mary Johnston.

Wally Burnie.

Hi Gerry;
Nice to see you back on line. If you still have me in your old site it will be under a different e-mail address, either bwally@rogers.com or wallyb@rogers.com or maybe @home.com. The only additional info. I found since last corresponding with you is that my Grandparents are Stephen Burnie and Mary Johnston, both buried in Saskatchewan somewhere, so far only the "Brick Wall" in my efforts to locate them through the Saskatchewan stats. It gets costly when you have only a vague time frame, but I will progress further this winter.
All the best, and Gloria is still very interested in news about Beverley.
How do you like your new home?

From Newmarket, Ont
